History Summary

Guelph Services for Persons with Disabilities (GSPD) was incorporated in 1975 to advocate for and provide recreational programs for persons with physical disabilities.

  • 1982

The attendant care supportive housing program began. This program was located in Twin Towers on Speedvale Avenue.
  • 1984

Services were expanded to offer an outreach attendant care program for people who preferred to remain living in their own homes throughout the community.
  • 1991

GSPD built an apartment complex on Willow Road, Willow Place, to serve as a second supportive housing attendant care site.
  • 1994

The Twin Towers program moved to Victor Davis Memorial Court, a new building located on Neeve Street.
  • 2000

GSPD celebrated 25 years of serving the community. GSPD changed its name from Guelph Services for the Physically Disabled to Guelph Services for Persons with Disabilities, recognizing the importance of keeping the well-known acronym GSPD. 
  • Today

GSPD continues to provide Attendant Services and supportive housing. Community Programs provide quality of life programming for persons with disabilities in Guelph . A Resource Library is maintained with information pertinent to persons with a disability.

      GSPD brings its years of experience and expertise to issues and concerns in the community impacting  persons with disabilities by participating in the Guelph Barrier Free Committees  
as well as many other ways.
