Serving Adults With Physical Disabilities In Guelph Since 1975

In the spotlight...In the spotlight...
GSPD is proud to be a provider agency for the Guelph-Wellington Home Help program. The Home Help program will support the frail elderly, adults with physical disabilities and those convalescing, by providing help with light housekeeping, meal preparation, and shopping. GSPD will work within the city of Guelph to match clients with screened homemakers. The partnership of client and homemaker will allow individuals the opportunity to stay at home and maintain their independence. The fee for this services is $12 per hour
.

GSPD would like to welcome Cherylee Fessenden as the Home Help Coordinator for GSPD. Cherylee has been with GSPD for 13 years. She started out as an Attendant and succeeded to the position of Neeve Street Coordinator. Now, as the Home Help Coordinator, Cherylee is working hard to get this program up and running in our community.

“The Home Help program is a wonderful opportunity for people who want to stay in their homes, but need some extra help. GSPD will match each client in Guelph with a screened, reliable homemaker.  Before now, there were no services like this in the city of Guelph. We are the first and I’m thrilled to be part of this great program.”

A Very Special Thank You…

GSPD would like to send out a sincere THANK YOU to the Rotary Club of Guelph Trillium for their generous donation. The Rotary Club donated $1000 to GSPD. These funds were used to provide subsidy for adults with a physical disability to attend a summer camp. The camp is specific for adults with physical disabilities, and provides the supports required for each individual.

This donation helped 6 people attend the camp for the summer of 2006. Thank you again to all members of the Rotary Club of Guelph Trillium for their continued support to valued community programs.

Subsidy Provided for Required Home Alterations

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) offers subsidies to seniors and persons with disabilities who require a home alteration.

The
Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence (HASI) program helps homeowners and landlords pay for minor home adaptations. The aim with this subsidy program is to help low income seniors maintain independence. Adaptations funded include: handrails, easy to reach work and storage areas, lever handles, walk in showers with grab bars, bathtub grab bars and seats.

Another subsidy offered is the
Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program for Persons with Disabilities (RRAP - Disabilities).  Financial support is provided to homeowners and landlords to modify dwellings occupied by low income persons with disabilities.
